Grading Policy

Home

The grades will be assigned as per the following table.  There will be no curving of grades so please don't ask.  I sometimes do make an exception for bright students who are missing the grade by a point or two.  But this should not be taken as granted.  This will happen if you regularly participated in the class, submitted assignments on time, etc.

ATTENDANCE & CLASS PARTICIPATION

Class participation is a very important part of class. You should come to class with the topic already prepared.  Attendance is mandatory for the class unless there is a valid reason.  What constitutes a valid reason is dependant on my judgment of the circumstances.   Class participation also includes creating an online resource library of class notes.  Every group will have a webpage where they will have to post their class notes and preparation material.

LATE WORK

There is no room for late work.  As you would have noticed, we have a very tight schedule and so there is no room for late work.  Late work not only upsets the class schedule but also the schedule of others in the class.

APPEALING GRADES

Any grade is subject to appeal and revision. When you do not understand or if you disagree with the grade for a specific item, you must submit a written request for appeal within one week from the day you got the grade.  The request must give a detailed explanation of, what you believe the grading error is?  I reserve the right to review the entire case; thus your grade could go up or down.  For group work, every member of the group must agree to the request for a re-grade.

ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT

It is the aim of the faculty of Texas Tech University to foster a spirit of complete honesty and a high standard of integrity. The attempt of students to present as their own any work that they have not honestly performed is regarded by the faculty and administration as a serious offense and renders the offenders liable to serious consequences, possibly suspension.

Short version: Do not cheat. If you are caught, you will flunk the class.

DISABILITY

If you have a documented disability and require special arrangements to meet course requirements, you should contact me as soon as possible to make necessary accommodations.  You may be required to present appropriate verification from the Disabled Student Services, Dean of Students Office.
